Here are 33 images of the M1A2 Abrams during OIF 1. These tanks actually belonged to the 1st Cavalry Division and were just arriving in country to begin the OIF 2 rotation. To tell the story briefly, these M1A2's were being hauled past our base camp on Highway 8 just outside Baghdad Airport. The tanks were being hauled on HET's when militants from Muqtada Al Sadr's militia ambushed them. The ensuing firefight resulted in extensive damage to a couple of tanks. All of the damage was a result of the tanks dodging multiple incoming RPG rounds. At the end of the firefight, there were two disabled M1A2's that were dragged into our camp for evaluation and repair.

Little did we know that these tanks would be welcome company in a couple days and would play a significant role in helping repel an assault on Easter Sunday.
